The rhythm of accretion (PhD defense Valentina Peirano, RUG)

On Tuesday morning, June 13, Valentina Peirano will take the stage at the University of Groningen to defend her astronomical thesis. She studied X-ray double stars and how they accrete material from each other. If you flip quickly through the thesis and look at the bottom right corner, you can see a dot shrinking and growing, just like a real binary star. Peirano's supervisor is Mariano Mendez.
