Lentelezing (2 van 4): Unveiling the secrets of the early universe with the JWST (Leiden, in het Engels)

De Universiteit Leiden en het Dispuut 'F. Kaiser' organiseren op vier zaterdagmiddagen in maart publiekslezingen. Het thema dit jaar is 'The circle of life: from the beginning of the universe to the formation of life'. Op zaterdag 11 maart spreekt Karina Caputi (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) over wat de James Webb-ruimtetelescoop onthult en mogelijk gaat onthullen over het vroege, jonge heelal.

Since starting science operations less than a year ago, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is revolutionizing our view of the early universe. With its unique capabilities, it is allowing us to study the first period of galaxy formation and evolution, which is essential to understand our universe as we see it today.

Caputi says: "In this talk, I will explain the main characteristics that make the JWST such a special astronomical instrument. I will also review some of its first scientific results in the field and briefly discuss the exciting open questions that we aim to address in the near future."
